Abstract: Some weeks ago we informed you that Normaliz 3.1.2 had been uploaded to our GitHub repository. Unfortunately it has a bug that can appear in large computations. The bug shows up in form of an "assert". This bug does NOT affect version 3.1.1. A bugfix has been published as version 3.1.3..
Abstract: The Symbolic Computation Group (SCG) in the Cheriton School of Computer Science is one of the world’s leading groups in symbolic computation and computer algebra. Research interests includes such topics as sparse interpolation, polynomial and differential systems, exact linear algebra, hybrid symbolic-numeric computation, algebraic complexity, and pen-based math systems. The SCG group was the original home of the Maple Computer Algebra system. Information on requirements, funding, deadlines and instructions for applying for the PhD program in Computer Science at the University of Waterloo can be found at https://www.cs.uwaterloo.ca/future-graduate-students. .
Abstract: The Technical University of Berlin has an opening for a three year postdoc position in mathematics (salary grade E13) starting in 2017. The successful candidate will be part of Berlin Mathematical School and conduct independent research in the Berlin based team of Prof. Felipe Cucker (CityU Hong Kong) and Prof. Peter Burgisser (TU Berlin). The postdoc position is funded by Professor Cucker's Einstein Visiting Fellowship ``Complexity and accuracy of numerical algorithms in algebra and geometry'' and does not involve teaching duties. We are seeking a postdoc who has already done successful research in one of the areas of complexity theory, applied algebraic geometry, complexity and accuracy of numerical algorithms, and ideally wishes to continue to work in the intersection of these subjects. .
Abstract: The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) invites applications for a Tenure-track Assistant Professorship in Applied Algebra and Geometry (V32.2705). Depending on the candidate’s experience, a higher-level entry (e.g. as Associate Professor with tenure) may be taken into consideration. .
Abstract: Normaliz 3.1.2 was uploaded to GitHub. At this stage it is meant for those among you that build Normaliz themselves. You can download it from https://github.com/Normaliz/Normaliz, branch master. .
Abstract: Normaliz 3.1.1 corrects some minor bugs. We have also added a libnormaliz function that returns the index of the unit group extension from the input monoid to the integral closure (in the nonpointed case). Christof Söger left the Department of Mathematics at the end of March..
Abstract: We are pleased to announce 13 open PhD positions within the European Network ARCADES: Algebraic Representations in Computer-Aided Design for complEx Shapes. ARCADES is a Marie Sklodowska-Curie Innovative Training Network in the framework of Horizon 2020, starting on January 1st, 2016, and lasts for 4 years. It includes 8 sites offering 13 PhD's, 5 industrial partners, and is coordinated by ATHENA Research & Innovation Center, Greece..
